NORTON, Mass.--Host Wheaton College (Mass.) swept all six singles positions and all three doubles positions in a 9-0 win over Smith College in NEWMAC tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
Smith is now 0-3, and 0-3 against NEWMAC teams, while Wheaton is 5-0, and 3-0 against NEWMAC opposition.
The Lyons' Alexandra Marlowe beat Smith's
Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J./Union County Acad.) at No. 1 6-2, 6-2, while
Seema Samawi (Damascus, Syria/King's Academy) fell to Wheaton's Lyndsey Cooke 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Â
Ruth Yi (Federal Way, Wash./Beamer) was beaten by Morgan Bell 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot, and at No. 4,
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) fell to Amanda Brazell 6-1, 6-1. Â Â
Sarah Crom defeated
Kathryn Dernbach (Naples, Fla./Community School) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, and
Andrea Tanco (Veracruz, Mexico/Li Po Chun (Hong Kong)) was beaten by Caroline DiNicola at No. 6.
Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of Cooke and Marlowe beat Smith's pair of Cheung and
Tessy Lopez (Pomona, Calif./Ganesha) 8-3, and at No. 2, Brazell and Bell beat Samawi and Yi. Â Crom teamed up with Jessica Moore for an 8-3 win over
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) and Tanco.
Smith will take the court on Tuesday, September 24 at Mount Holyoke at 4 p.m. Â Wheaton will also be in action that day, heading to Emerson College.
