TEMPE, AZ - The Intercollegiate Tennis Associations announced its individual and team-based 2025-26 Division III Regional Awards, with the Smith College tennis program the recipient of the organization's Community Service Award for the Northeast Region.
"We are so honored to receive the ITA Community Service Award, said assistant coach Sofie Chen. "The Smith and broader Northampton communities are a crucial part of our team. We are so lucky to have such a supportive community and our team really embraces these opportunities to give back."
Community Service Award Initiatives
- Free Girls Tennis Empowerment Clinics - Ran a series of free girl's empowerment tennis clinics to connect with the girls in the community and introduce them to the sport of tennis
- Project Coach - Partnership between Smith College and Springfield Public Schools that provides a sports-based life skills program that teaches high school students to coach and mentor youth within their community.
- Halloween Hit for Hunger - Invited all members of the Smith and Northampton community to join the team for a fun evening of tennis. Participants were asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Northampton Survival Center
- Smith Food Rescue Network - Collected unused food from the dining halls to then donate to the Northampton community
