SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team fell on the road to longtime foe Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday evening in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup.  Smith falls to 0-4 on the year, with an 0-4 NEWMAC record, while Mount Holyoke is 4-4, and 2-3 against NEWMAC opposition.
	
	In doubles, the Pioneers got a spirited effort from the duo of Tessy Lopez (Pomona, Calif./Ganesha) and Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J./Union County Acad.), who fell to AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik 9-7 at the No. 1 spot.  Andrea Tanco (Veracruz, Mexico/Li Po Chun (Hong Kong)) and Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) lost 8-2 to Margaux Holloschutz and Maya Sayarath at No. 2, and Ruth Yi (Federal Way, Wash./Beamer) and Alexandra Steck (Loudonville, N.Y./Emma Willard) finished doubles with an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Sarah Anischik and Kelsey Brower.
	
	Cheung also played well at singles, pushing Konkel before falling 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1.  Seema Samawi (Damascus, Syria/King's Academy) was beaten by Sayarath 6-1, 6-1, and Kathryn Dernbach (Naples, Fla./Community School) lost to Malik 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot.  Yi, Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology), and Tessy Lopez (Pomona, Calif./Ganesha) all lost by matching 6-0, 6-0 scores at Nos., 3, 4, and 6 respectively.
	
	Smith will return to the court on October 1, hosting Springfield College at 4 p.m.  Mount Holyoke will take part in the ITA Regional this weekend at Williams College.
