Game Preview: Volleyball vs. Springfield

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The second of four straight games away from home starts for the Smith College (8-2, 2-1 NEWMAC) volleyball team when they head to to Springfield College (10-1, 2-1 NEWMAC) on Thursday evening.  


Last Meeting: Smith won the first set, but fell in the next three in a 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 11-25, 16-25) loss to the Pride on October 16, 2012.

The Series: Springfield has won 45 of the 50 all-time meetings between these two schools.  

Fast Facts:  Springfield was stunned by Babson College in five sets on Tuesday night...the Pride had won their first 10 matches of the season...the Pride had only lost two sets in that 10 game win streak....Smith lost in five sets to Coast Guard on Tuesday...the Pioneers rallied from down 2-0 to force a deciding fifth set...it was the first loss in a five set match for the Pioneers this season...in all three matches that have gone five sets, the Pioneers have rallied from 2-0 down...

Next Up: Smith continues to play away from home with a tri-match at MIT, with Framingham State on Saturday.  Matches are slated to start at 12 and 2 p.m.  Springfield will be at league newcomer Emerson on Saturday, beginning at noon.
