Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine--The Smith College volleyball team beat the Maine Maritime Academy 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 18-25, 25-17) in the first match of the Colby Invitational on Friday evening.


The Pioneers (2-0) received an outstanding performance from Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth), who hit .667 with 13 kills, adding four service aces and five solo blocks.  Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) had 10 kills without making an error, hitting .556, with seven assists, and Bethany Ashworth (North Falmouth, Mass./Bourne) had 17 assists and eight digs.   

Paige Sarlandt (Cloverdale, Calif./Cloverdale) added eight kills and Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) also had 21 digs for the Pioneers, who hit .290 as a team.


Smith continues action on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Colby College and a noon tilt against Gordon College.
