Volleyball Travels to Wellesley

Box Score WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Smith College volleyball team continued New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play Tuesday by taking on the Wellesley College Blue. Smith dropped the conference clash by the final score of 3-0.

The Blue (14-7, 4-4) defeated the Pioneers (6-16, 1-7) by the set scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-20.

First year Dayra Diaz Marquez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/New Mission) and sophomore Lauren Shaffer (Downey, Calif./Whittier Christian) recorded four kills each. First year Xela Miller (Granada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) chipped in two kills, while fellow classmate Jenna Rubin (Norfolk, Conn./Suffield Academy) led Smith defensively, tallying a season-high three solo blocks to go along with two block assists and nine digs. Sophomore Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) handled the setting duties, finishing with seven assists and seven digs.

Smith will next host the 23rd annual Hall of Fame Tournament, starting Friday, October 24 at 5 p.m. The Pioneers will open the two-day tournament with a match against Wesleyan University.
