Demick's 19 Saves Not Enough as Smith Falls Short at No.7 Amherst

October 23, 2014

Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – Smith goalkeeper Nora Demick (Watertown, Mass/Beaver Country Day) recorded a season-high 19 saves, including seven in the first half, but No. 7 Amherst College struck for three goals in the second stanza to claim a 4-0 non-conference victory over the Pioneers Thursday night.

Four different Jeffs tallied markers in the match, led by junior Katie Paolano's four points.

Amherst (12-2) outshot Smith, 29-2, and didn't allow the Pioneers (4-11) to register a shot in the second half. Smith has now played four teams ranked in the Top-20 as part of a 2014 schedule that is the 21st toughest in all of NCAA Division III.

Demick, the reigning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, one-upped her previous season-high of 18, set on Oct. 18 against MIT. She has now stopped 10 or more shots in three of her last four starts.

Senior Rebecca Meagher (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) increased her conference lead in defensive save by notching her sixth of the season Thursday.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday, Oct. 25 when they host the Springfield College Pride at 12 p.m.
