Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - After a city-wide power outage delayed the start of the 2014 Hall of Fame Tournament, hosted by Smith College, for over a hour and a half Friday, the Pioneers opened their home tournament against the Wesleyan Cardinals. Smith battled valiantly, with all six players who dressed playing all the way around, but ultimately fell, 3-0 to Wesleyan.
The Cardinals (11-9) claimed the victory over the Pioneers (6-16) by the set scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-21.
Sophomore
Lauren Shaffer (Downey, Calif./Whittier Christian) put home a team-high 10 kills, while first year
Jenna Rubin (Norfolk, Conn./Suffield Academy) added six kills, four digs and two solo blocks. First year
Dayra Diaz Marquez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/New Mission) notched her ninth double-double of the season, tallying 13 assists to go along with 12 digs.
Sophomore
Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) recorded two kills, eight assists and seven digs, while first year
Xela Miller (Granada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) finished with four kills and nine digs. Fellow classmate
Sakura Tamaki (New York, N.Y./Fiorello H. LaGuardia), who came into the match with just one service ace, registered a pair of aces in the match.
The Pioneers close out the 2014 Hall of Fame Tournament tomorrow with matches against Bridgewater State University at 11 a.m. and Westfield State University at 3 p.m.
