Volleyball Travels to Mount Holyoke

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College volleyball team continued New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play Tuesday by traveling to Mount Holyoke College. Smith dropped the conference match-up by the final score of 3-0.

The Lyons (4-21, 1-8 NEWMAC) took the match by the set scores of 25-16, 25-8 and 25-21. Smith (6-20, 1-8) was led by sophomore Lauren Shaffer (Downey, Calif./Whittier Christian), who tallied nine kills on 38 swings. First-year Dayra Diaz Marquez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/New Mission) and sophomore Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) shared the setting duties, recording nine and eight assists, respectively. Marquez also finished with a season-high 21 digs, while first-year Xela Miller (Granada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) finished with four kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Allison Hardy (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville) returned to notch 16 digs, while first-year Jenna Rubin (Norfolk, Conn./Suffield Academy) added a solo block and nine digs.

The Pioneers will close out the 2014 season on Saturday when they host the Wheaton College Lyons at 4 p.m. Smith will honor senior Samantha Danguilan (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) prior to the match as part of Senior Day.
