Game Preview: Lacrosse vs. Emerson

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College lacrosse team (1-7, 0-1) is coming off its first win of the season and looks to secure its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the year when the Pioneers host Emerson (5-3, 0-1) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Fast Facts: The Lions defeated New England College, 18-7, on Thursday; just over 24 hours after the Pioneers edged the Pilgrims 11-10…Victoria Kanaris is ranked 14th in the nation with a 58.3 save percentage…Emerson leads the conference with an 86.8 shots on goal percentage…led by Meredith Weber (28 goals, 8 free position), five Lions have scored 10 or more goals and sport an 80.0 or better shots on goal percentage…the last time the Pioneers won back-to-back games was on April 2 and 4 of last season as Smith defeated New England College, 19-9, and Nichols College, 13-10…Jessica Lillquist (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme), who found the back of the net five times on Wednesday, amassed 13 goals against the Pilgrims and Bison in 2013…Smith has committed four less turnovers (59-55) in the second half than its opponents…the Pioneers are outscoring the competition 25-14 in free position goals.
 
Next Up: Smith concludes its three-game homestand with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference matchup with Westfield State. Emerson will host Maine-Farmington at 6:00 p.m., also on Wednesday.
