Game Preview: Lacrosse vs. Western New England

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College lacrosse team (0-1) ventures to Western New England University (3-0) on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
 
Last Meeting: The Golden Bears defeated the Pioneers 20-10 on March 9, 2013 in Northampton.
 
The Series: Smith won the first two meetings between the two programs while Western New England has won the last 11.
 
Fast Facts: The Golden Bears are on a three-game winning streak after defeating Bridgewater State, the defending Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season and tournament champions, 15-5 on Thursday…Taylor Scialdone and Shelby Trebbe each have 10 goals while they lead Western New England with 18 and 13 points, respectively…Kaitlynn Stevens has seven goals and five helpers for 12 points…Jessica Scannapieco paces the Golden Bears with 20 draw controls, 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers…Smith is led by Petru Bester (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional) with five goals while Rachel Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) had seven points (4g, 3a) in the season opener…Anne Zawacki (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) leads the way with six draw controls and five ground balls…Bethany Claps (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) has a team-best four caused turnovers…The Pioneers outshot UMass Dartmouth 34-29 in the 2014 lid lifter.
