BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Smith College tennis team was dealt an 8-1 loss Sunday by the Babson College Beavers in New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
With the win, Babson is now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NEWMAC, while Smith drops to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Pioneers' lone point of the match came from sophomore
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology), who defeated Beavers' first-year Ashland Stansbury (Hingham, Mass.), 6-1, 6-3 at number six singles.
"Margaret Anne played a patient and determined game with a heroic finish on match point," said head coach
Chris Davis. "Her consistency on the run has been remarkable!"
Smith will host the first match on their newly renovated tennis courts Saturday, Sept. 20 with a 1 p.m. Match against Wheaton College.
