Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Sophomore
Allison Hardy (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville) recorded a season-high 10 kills but it wasn't enough as MIT cruised to a 3-0 win over the Smith College volleyball team in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Saturday.
With the win, the Engineers move to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Pioneers slip to 6-9 and 1-4 in the NEWMAC.
MIT, which saw 10 players record at least one kill, opened the match with a 25-10 first set victory and took set two by the score of 25-13. The Pioneers raced out to an 8-4 lead in the third stanza, but the Engineers clawed back to win the third set, 26-24, and the match.
Smith was led by Hardy, who finished with double-digit kills for the second time this season. Fellow sophomore
Lauren Shaffer (Downey, Calif./Whittier Christian) recorded seven kills and four digs while playing all the way around for the Pioneers, and first-year
Dayra Diaz Marquez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/New Mission) tallied 22 assists and six digs.
Smith returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Emerson College for a 7 p.m. match.
