Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Emliy Smith netted the game-winner in the 84th minute to power the Smith soccer team to a much needed 2-1 NEWMAC win over MIT Saturday afternoon. This was the first win for the Pioneers over MIT in the last 10 meetings.
After a scoreless opening stanza, all three of the game's goals were scored over the final 45 minutes of play. Smith sophomore Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) put the Pioneers on the board in the 50th minute when she was left in front of an empty net after the MIT goalkeeper misplayed the ball.
The lead would not hold as MIT senior Jennifer Ibanez rocketed the ball into the upper corner of the net from the 20 yards out just 5;20 later.

Emily Smith (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) put the hosts on top for good at the 83:33 mark of the contest. Smith took a shot from point blank range and fired her third goal of the season into the lower corner of the net for the 2-1 advantage.
MIT outshot Smith by a narrow 11-10 margin, while both teams were knotted in corner kicks with four apiece.
Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) stopped the four times, improving her record to 3-4-2 in 2015. Ullmann made five saves for the Engineers as she moves to 8-6-2 this season.
Smith (6-5-3, 2-2-2 NEWMAC) welcomes WPI for a conference clash at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, while MIT (8-6-2, 5-2-0 NEWMAC) hosts NEWMAC foe Babson College next Saturday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m.
