Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College volleyball team lost in three sets to Wellesley on Tuesday night in Ainsworth Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-25, 25-25, 25-22 in favor of the visitors.
The Pioneers are now 4-18 overall and 0-8 in conference play, while the Blue improve to 12-11, 5-3.
The Blue jumped out to leads of 8-3 and 21-9 on their way to a 25-15 set one victory. The Pioneers found themselves with a 12-7 lead in the second set, sparked by
Jenna Rubin (Norfolk, Conn./Suffield Academy)'s three kills. Smith's lead forced a Wellesley timeout, where they regrouped and came out on a vengeance, taking the games next 11 points and would go on to win 25-15.
Macarena Rojas (Maipu, Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) served the Pioneers to six consecutive points in the third set, giving the home team an 8-4 advantage. Both teams would go back and forth until the Blue went on a 12-1 to hold a 17-14 lead as they went on to claim the set 25-22.

Macarena Rojas (Maipu, Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) led the Pioneers offensively with nine assists and six kills to go with seven digs. Junior libero
Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) finished with a team-best 11 digs and three service aces, while
Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) added fives kills, hitting .267 and 10 assists.
Wellesley was led by Yasmine Rice, who hit .304 with 11 kills, three service aces and three total blocks. Michelle Li orchestrated an efficient offense, registering 27 assists, while Samantha Hoang finished with a team-high 14 digs.

Smith will host the Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament this weekend, opening with Bridgewater State Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Blue will take part in the New England Challenge this weekend, beginning with Tufts Friday at 7:00 p.m.
