Volleyball Opens Play at 2015 Hall of Fame Tournament

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Pioneers opened their home tournament with a tightly contested 3-1 loss to Bridgewater State Friday evening at Ainsworth Gymnasium.

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -  The Pioneers opened their home tournament with a tightly contested 3-1 loss to Bridgewater State Friday evening at Ainsworth Gymnasium.

The Bears (11-17) claimed the victory over the Pioneers (4-19) by the set scores of 27-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-19.

Libero Julie Voorhers served Smith to five straight points in the third set, giving the Pioneers a 19-10 lead they would not relinquish as they went on to win the set. 


Senior outside hitter Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) had an incredible game of 15 assists, 11 kills and 15 digs. Xela Miller (Granada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) added seven kills and two digs, while Macarena Rojas (Maipu, Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) finished with a team-high 17 assists. 

Sophomore Clara Goncalves led the BSU attack with 11 kills while Hannah Maymon and Sydney Bennett each contributed 10 winners. Setter Charleyne Panner Kirsten tallied 37 assists, and libero Samantha Fasoli collected a match-high 18 digs.

The Pioneers close out the 2015 Hall of Fame Tournament tomorrow with matches against Hamilton at 10 a.m. and Vassar at 2 p.m.
