Mei-Li Smith Plays in Final Home Game

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Senior outside hitter Mei-Li Smith was honored Thursday evening on Senior Night for her outstanding four-year playing career at Smith College.

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Senior outside hitter Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) was honored Thursday evening on Senior Night for her outstanding four-year playing career at Smith College. The Pioneers led 2-1 but were not able to hold on as Suffolk won the last two in a five-set match at Ainsworth Gymnasium. 

Suffolk took the opening set, 25-18, before Smith bounced back with 25-19 and 25-14 wins in sets two and three. The visitors got back on track and escaped the fourth with a 25-23 triumph and went on to wrap up the victory in a 15-13 third set.

Prior to the match, senior Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) was honored in front of a large crowd of friends and family.

, who finished her last game as a Pioneer with a match-high 15 kills, to go along with 14 assists and 19 digs. Sophomore libero Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) anchored the defensive efforts for Smith, recording a career-high 38 digs, breaking the previous record of 33 set by Voorhes and Blair Bell. Macarena Rojas (Maipu, Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) turned in a solid match of 23 assists, 14 digs and seven kills, while Jenna Rubin (Norfolk, Conn./Suffield Academy) totaled 10 kills and six total blocks. 

For the visitors, Bridget Allison recorded 14 kills and 11 digs. Liz Kerek orchestrated the offense with 29 assists and Talia Lombardo hammered down seven kills to go with 21 digs. 

The Pioneers wrap up the 2015 season with a NEWMAC match at Wheaton Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m.
