Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College soccer team clinched the No. 7 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, despite their 2-1 loss to Wheaton Saturday.
Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their nine seniors:

Jamie Cyr (Danville, Vt./Danville),
Olivia Mallari (Waterford, Conn./Waterford),

Lily Eriksen (Seattle, Wash./Bush School),
Annabel Calhoun (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) and
Shannon Saywell (Groton, Mass./Lawrence Acad.).Â
Alexa Sanchez got the lyons on the board in the eighth minute when Julie Beyar took a free kick from 45 yards out that met the head of Sanchez and found the back of the goal.Â
Wheaton doubled their lead when Sanchez collected a loose ball of a corner attempt and found the foot of Kaylee Sye who sent a rocket to the upper left of the cage.Â
The Pioneers would not go away as
GiGi Ross (Colt's Neck, N.J./Colt's Neck) cut the lead in half when she one-touched a cross pass from
Emma Gubbins (Dennis, Mass./Nauset Regional) over the arms of the Wheaton goalkeeper.Â
Smith had two other opportunities to tie the game late in the half, but both shots were blocked.Â
Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) made two saves in the first half, while
Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) made one save in the second. Lyons netminder Laenn Wolf totaled six saves.Â
With Wellesley's 2-1 loss to Springfield, the Pioneers clinched the final spot and will travel to the No. 2 seed Wheaton on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Game time is TBA.
