Game Preview: Soccer vs. Springfield

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College soccer team (5-2-3, 1-0-2 NEWMAC) plays consecutive home games for the second time this season when the Pioneers host Springfield College (6-3-1, 2-1-0 NEWMAC) on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m..

Last Meeting:  Springfield's Nicole Fowler scored in the 76th minute on their way to a 1-0 win on October 7, 2014. 

The Series: Springfield leads 15-11-2, having won the last eight matchups all by shutout.  Seven of the 26 matches between these two have gone to overtime, with Smith holding a 4-1-2 advantage in those games.

Fast Facts:  The Pride are coming off two consecutive losses for the first time this year...Springfield is 2-2 on the road and is averaging 1.6 goals per game...The Pride have two seperate three-game win streaks this season...Krissy Cicalis and Nicole Fowler each have nine points for Springfield this season...Smith picked up their first NEWMAC win of the season against Coast Guard Saturday, 2-0 courtesy of Emily Smith (Winchester, Mass./Winchester)'s game-sinner 34 seconds into the game...Smith was named the NEWMAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week while Maggie Pacheco (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday...The Pioneers will also be looking to win consecutive league games for the first time since 2007.

Next Up:  Smith travels to Emerson Saturday for a NEWMAC conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m. Springfield will head to Wheaton College for a re-match of last season's NEWMAC Championship game.
