NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Pioneers will be heading to Wheaton College on Tuesday, November 3 at 1:30 p.m. for a NEWMAC quarterfinal match, just three days after the teams played each other in the regular season finale.
Last Meeting: Wheaton held on for a 2-1 victory in the regular season meeting on October 31. GiGi Ross (Colt's Neck, N.J./Colt's Neck) scored the only goal for the Pioneers in the 74th minute.
The Series: Wheaton leads 29-18-1, and has won 26 straight between these two. Smith won 16 of 18 meetings from 1983-1996. These two teams have met in the postseason 11 times, most recently in the NEWMAC Finals in 2006 where Wheaton won 3-0.

MIT claimed the top seed and hosting rights in the tournament after wrapping up the regular season at 8-2. Wheaton finished the regular season at 6-2-2 in NEWMAC play to secure the #2 seed. Rounding out the remaining seeds are #3 Babson (5-1-4), #4 Springfield (6-3-1), #5 WPI 5-3-2), #6 Mount Holyoke (4-3-3) and #7 Smith (3-3-4). A tiebreaking procedure was done between Babson and Springfield. In the regular season during head to head competition the Beavers defeated the Pride for the #3 slot.
MIT has earned a first round bye with the #1 slot while #2 Wheaton will host #7 Smith in quarterfinal action. In the other two quarterfinals, #3 Babson will host #6 Mount Holyoke while #4 Springfield will host #5 WPI. Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Tuesday, November 3rd.
