NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith College opened the spring portion of its 2014-15 schedule with an 8-1 victory over Curry College inside Sunday afternoon at Smith's Indoor Track and Tennis Facility.
The Pioneers improve to 1-0, while the Colonels fall to 0-1.

Samantha Peikes (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) and sophomore
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) led Smith with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
Sophomore
Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J./Union County Acad.) and senior
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) posted wins at No.1 and No. 2 singles while sophomore
Christine Yee (South San Francisco, Calif./South San Francisco) added a win at No. 5 singles.
First-year
Katherine Hazen (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) was victorious at No. 6 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win while senior
Seema Samawi (Damascus, Syria/King's Academy) and sophomore
Badriyyah AlSabah (Kuwait, Kuwait/Al Bayan Bilingual School) combined for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Pioneers will travel to Bates College Sunday for a 1 p.m. start time.
