EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Smith College tennis team picked up their second win of the spring with a 9-0 win over Salve Regina University on Monday.
The Pioneers (4-7) cruised to their second win in three matches by sweeping all six singles matches and winning 3-of-3 doubles matches against the Seagulls.
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) and
Samantha Peikes (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) defeated Taylor Amendola and Emma Gruber, 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles. On court two,
Badriyyah AlSabah (Kuwait, Kuwait/Al Bayan Bilingual School) and
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) took down Salve Regina's Courtney Bailey and Julie Grant, 8-6 before
Katherine Hazen (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) and
Breanna Parker (Panora, Iowa/Panorama) combined for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Smith carried its momentum into singles play dominating the Seahawks on all six courts. Dubin, Peikes,
Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J./Union County Acad.), Smith and
Christine Yee (South San Francisco, Calif./South San Francisco) all defeated their respective opponents in straight sets.
Seema Samawi (New York City, N.Y./King's Academy) won a two set tie breaker on court five to end the match against Meg Olson,
4-6 , 6-1, 1-0 (10-1).
The Pioneers return to the court on March 28, when they host Connecticut College at 3 p.m.
