Box Score WHEATON, Mass. – Co-captains
Petru Bester (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional) and
Rachel Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) combined for four goals Wednesday for the Smith College lacrosse team, but it wasn't enough for the Pioneers in a 17-6 loss to the Wheaton College Lyons in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play.
Bester and
Caroline Myran (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends School) each tallied a team-best three points. Bester added an assist to her two goals while Myran dished out a pair of helpers while also netting her 11
th goal of the season.
Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) scored her 14
th goal of the season, and Silveria's two goals Wednesday leave her seven points shy of becoming the 10
th member of Smith's 100-point club.
Simone Lawrence (Springfield, Mass./MacDuffie School) collected four groundballs, while
Lizzie Sturtevant (Leyden, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) and
Angela Schondek (Raynham, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) each caused two turnovers. Hamilton also snagged four draw controls, and
Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) scooped three groundballs and helped win three draws for the Pioneers.
Sarah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) added to her conference lead in total saves, turning away 14 shots to up her season total to 86.
Smith (3-5, 0-1) is back in action Saturday, traveling to Emerson College to take on the Lions. The NEWMAC contest is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
