NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team defeated Bryn Mawr College, 5-0 to open play at the 2015 Seven Sisters Tennis Championship, before falling 5-0 to #22-ranked Vassar College in the nightcap. The win by the Pioneers over the Owls was the first Seven Sisters tournament victory for Smith since April 15, 2012.

Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) staked Smith to a 1-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #1 singles against Bryn Mawr's Lizzie Siegle.

Samantha Peikes (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) extended Smith's lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 singles, while sophomore
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) made it a clean sweep in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3-singles.

Ruth Yi (Tacoma, Wash./Todd Beamer) and sophomore
Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J./Union County Acad.) teamed up to defeat Melina Koukoutchos and Kendall Baller at #1-doubles, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4.

Seema Samawi (New York City, N.Y./King's Academy) and her partner gave Smith the shutout victory with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win at #2-doubles.
The Pioneers (6-10) battled with the #22-ranked Vassar Brewers, but ultimately fell 5-0.
Smith will close out the 2015 Seven Sisters Tennis Championships Sunday with games against Mount Holyoke (9 a.m.) and Wellesley College (12 p.m.).
