Soccer Shuts Out Bryn Mawr 2-0

September 13, 2015

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College Soccer Team scored single goals in each half and Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) earned her second consecutive shutout in net as the Pioneers defeated visiting Bryn Mawr 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 3-1-1 on the season.

Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) opened the scoring just 2:15 into the match after she was sent in on Bryn Mawr goalkeeper Aviva Kosansky by a ball over the top of the Owl defense from the foot of Lily Eriksen (Seattle, Wash./Bush School) just inside of the attacking half.  Isaacs gathered 25 yards from goal and attacked the target, finishing calmly after a soft touch right.

Isaacs' second goal of the season came exactly one minute after the visitors nearly lit the scoreboard on a breakaway of their own.  A Smith turnover in the backfield opened the pitch for Haidyn Weight, who dribbled in on Biasin.  Closing down her angle, the Smith netminder made a sprawling fingertip save to thwart the opportunity.

Both teams continued to probe for the remainder of the opening 45 as play quickly swung from end to end.  A defensive save by Maggie Pacheco (Montclair, NJ/Montclair), heading a Caitlin Homstad attempt off the line, preserved the 1-0 advantage at the half.

Smith opened the second half controlling tempo and possession, and doubled their advantage in the 54th minute.  For the second consecutive afternoon, a Pioneer shot found the crossbar as a Jackie Foody (Weston, Mass./Weston) cross was headed by Emily Smith (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) square off of the iron.  All alone inside the six stood Gigi Ross, who collected Foody's rebound and drove her shot into the side netting for the 2-0 lead on her eighth career goal.

The homestanders outshot Bryn Mawr 17-14 in the match, putting seven attempts on target.  Biasin made fives saves in the Smith goal for the clean sheet.  With the shutout, the Pioneers have blanked their opponent for the fourth time in five games for the second consecutive season.

Smith travels to Elms on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kick-off with the Blazers before opening New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Clark.
