Women's Soccer Duels Clark to 1-1 Draw in NEWMAC Opener

September 18, 2015

Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) scored her team-leading third goal of the season and had a final-minute potential game-winner blocked as the Smith College Soccer Team battled Clark to a 1-1 stalemate in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams.

With the draw, Smith moves to 3-2-2 on the season while Clark stands at 2-3-2.  The Pioneers maintain a slim 10-9-4 lead in the series history.

Alex Easton nearly put Clark ahead in the first half, forcing a diving save from Smith netminder Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) in the 39th minute after a corner kick.

Isaacs struck in the 63rd minute to give Smith a 1-0 lead on a long feed over the top from Gigi Ross, beating Clark goalkeeper Gabby Paolini into the lower left corner.  Isaacs released a game-high six shots in the game.

Though the sophomore's first two goals of the season were game-winners, the Cougars struck back in the 74th minute.  After receiving a throw-in, Kara Fischer sent a ball into the box that landed on the foot of Haley Connors, who slipped the finish past Biasin.

The equalizer came against the run of play in the second half.  After Clark outshot the Pioneers 8-3 in the opening 45, the field tilted towards Smith's attacking end as the visitors outshot the Cougars 15-5 over the final 65 minutes of the game, including both overtimes.

After the game-tying goal, the Pioneers owned the best scoring opportunities in the remainder of regulation and the overtime periods.  In the 81st minute, Isaacs beat Paolini, but her rising drive found iron, clanging off of the crossbar.

Smith nearly seized all three points with the match at the death.  Isaacs ran onto a loose ball on the left flank and with a deft touch, elluded a pair of defenders towards the top of the box.  But her shot with 58 seconds remaining was deflected away towards the midfield by a lunging Caitland Baxter to preserve the deadlock.

The Pioneers outshot Clark 18-13 in the match with both teams earning five corner kicks and making four saves.

Smith returns to NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 26 at Babson for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff.
