Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at Babson

September 26, 2015

Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. - Junior Maya McCann (Springfield, Mass./Renaissance) opened the scoring in the 16th minute with her first career goal and Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) and Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) combined to make 14 saves as the Smith College Soccer Team dueled Babson to a 1-1 draw on Saturday in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action.

With the stalemate, both teams move to 0-0-2 in NEWMAC play.

Junior Olivia Kerester leveled the match for the Beavers in the 70th minute, receiving a cross and hammering a left-footed shot from the top of the box.  An organized Pioneer defense and the Smith goalkeeping thwarted Babson's push for a game-winner in the final 40 minutes of regulation and overtime.

The opening goal of the game came on Smith's second shot of the afternoon after Elizabeth Mycock denied Innis Hitt (Arlington, Va./Yorktown)'s opening effort.  After winning a corner, Hitt sent in an out-swinging delivery that was powered home with the head by McCann.

Hitt and Lily Erikson tied for the Smith lead with two shots apiece.

Following the game-tying goal, Hall denied three late Babson opportunities in the 81st, 87th, and 88th minutes, the second and third off the foot of the goalscorer.

In the first overtime period, the Beavers launched eight shots in the direction of Hall, forcing six additional saves.  In the 95th minute, Hall denied a Leisl Bard breakaway, and in the 96th minute, a rebound from a Jennifer Narlee shot found Kerester, whose bid for a brace was cleared off of the line by Sophie Mallari.

Hall was tested once more in double overtime, stopping a Kelsey Ford shot in the 107th minute.  Jackie Foody (Weston, Mass./Weston)'s shot on target was corralled by Mycock in the final minute to preserve the draw.

Smith returns to action on Tuesday at Western new England with kick-off scheduled for 4 p.m.
