Volleyball Swept by Emerson

NORTHAMPTON, MA - Smith College volleyball fell to Emerson 3-0 in a NEWMAC matchup Tuesday night at Ainsworth Gymnasium. The Lions were victorious by scores of 25-13, 25-8 and 25-16.

NORTHAMPTON, MA - Smith College volleyball fell to Emerson 3-0 in a NEWMAC matchup Tuesday night at Ainsworth Gymnasium. The Lions were victorious by scores of 25-13, 25-8 and 25-16.

The win ups the Emerson overall record to 7-6, 2-3 NEWMAC while the Pioneers drop to 2-12 and remain winless in conference at 0-6.

Macarena Rojas (Maipu, Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) and Xela Miller (Granada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) each finished with 10 digs while Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) orchestrated the Pioneers offense with 11 assists. Jenna Rubin (Norfolk, Conn./Suffield Academy) totaled four kills, and classmates Rojas and Miller each recorded three kills.

For the visitors, Moira Brennan and Elaine Nichols combined for 30 assists while classmate Jessica Hamilton led the Lions with 13 digs. Annie Hall hit an impressive .556 with a team-high six kills and only one error. 

Next up for the Pioneers will be a non-conference tri-match with Eastern Connecticut State and John Jay College. The tri-match will be hosted by Eastern Connecticut with Smith slated to play at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Emerson will also be in tri-match action on Saturday as the Lions host Curry and Suffolk.
