NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team concluded the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) portion of their schedule with a 7-2 win over Emerson College Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Pioineers improve to 3-6 overall and 2-6 in conference, while the Lions drop to 3-8 and 0-8 the NEWMAC. Both team miss out on qualifying for the NEWMAC Tennis Championship.
Leading 2-1 after doubles, both teams moved to singles play. Once again, sophomore
Sam Peikes (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) brought in the winning point in a match that went to the wire as she came from behind in both sets to clinch the victory. Sophomore
Noa Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) earned a Smith point at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Sophomore
Joanna Kim (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) followed suit with a three set win (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) in the third slot where she showed the best change of pace and set-ups of the season. Senior
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the No. spot. No. 6
Christine Yee (South San Francisco, Calif./South San Francisco), who competed with patience, persistence and poise, was the final match on the court as the senior closed out her opponent 7-6, 6-4.
The Pioneers continue fall competition Monday at Salve Regina at 3:30 p.m.
