Pioneers Post 176-121 Win Over Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Smith College swimming and diving team posted a 176-121 win over Westfield State Friday evening at the Woodward Center. The Pioneers earned 12 first place finishes out of 16 events.

RESULTS

SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Eliza Cummings (Denver, Colo./Denver Center for Int'l Studies) posted Smith's first win of the night with her time of 11:31.55 in the 1000 yard free and followed that with another top finish in the 500 free (5:36.45).
  • Cummings along with Haley Markos (Dover, N.H./Dover), Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria), and Kate Niemiec (South Windsor, Conn. ) earned the top time in the 400 free relay competition with their time of 3:56.39.
  • Senior Abby Onos (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) had an outstanding night in the pool with her three first place times in the 50 free (26:36), 100 free (57:26), and 200 Individual Medley (2:19.73).
  • Niemiec won the 200 backstroke in 2:22.11 and 100 back (1:04.81), while sophomore Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) did the same in the 200 fly (2:23.27) and 100 fly (1:05.69).
DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Elly Stone took the 1-meter dive, scoring 263.95, and the 3-meter board in 262.30.
  • First year Abigail Hanna (Averill Park, N.Y.) finished third on the 1-meter (260.85) and second (223.50) on the 3-meter while fellow first year Shoshana Weblow completed the sweep for the Pioneers on the 3-meter with her third place score of 224.55.

Smith will take over a week off before competing at the Hamilton Invitational December 2-3.
