A three-pointer from freshman guard Emily Chang completed the comeback for the Ephs as Williams topped Smith 44-40 in non-conference basketball action Sunday afternoon in Ainsworth Gymnasium.

SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore guard Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prepatory) tied her career-high with 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and two steals.
  • Sophomore forward Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga./The Lawrenceville School) hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds, while sophomore Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) dished out three assists. 
  • Junior guard Paige Marquez (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prepatory) finished with eight points and two boards.
WILLIAMS HIGHLIGHTS 
  • Chang came off the bench to score a team-best 11 points.
  • Lauren McCall was just shy of a double-double as the senior forward registered nine points and eight rebounds.
  • Junior forward Lydia Zaleski produced six points, five rebounds and one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down 4-2, the Pioneers went on a 14-0 run to take a 16-4 lead with 1:17 remaining in the quarter. In that stretch, six different student-athletes scored for Smith.
  • A jumper from junior guard Meghan Holland (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prepatory) gave the Pioneers their largest lead of the game, 25-10, with 5:49 left in the second quarter.
  • The Ephs trimmed the lead to nine (29-20) going into the half powered by two buckets from Zaleski.
  • A three-point play from Chang completed a 10-2 run from Williams to begin the second half to come within one (31-30) at the 5:23 mark.
  • Jade Chihara (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) provided a spark for the Pioneers as the junior guard stole the ball and took it the length of the court for a fastbreak layup and 35-30 lead.
  • Hanley's layup with 1:17 left in the third was the last basket the Pioneers would score as Smith shot 0-for-21 in the fourth quarter.
  • Chang's trey with 26 seconds left in the game gave Williams their first lead since the 8:19 mark in the first quarter when they were up 4-2.
  • Two free-throws from Caveney put the game away for the 44-40 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
For the game, Smith shot 20.6 percent (13-of-63) from the field, a season-high 81.3 percent (13-of-16) and forced 21 turnovers. In addition, the Pioneers held a 42-39 edge on the boards.

UP NEXT
The Pioneers open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when Smith travels to Coast Guard.
