NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team opened up their spring season with a 9-0 victory over Curry College Saturday afternoon.

Captain
Samantha Peikes (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) and
Joanna Kim (Chicago, IL) anchored No. 1 doubles, challenging Kimberly Love and Kayla Pete for a decisive 8-1 win.
Morgan Barney (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) and Sarah Cassify-Seymour brought in win No. 2 with an 8-3 victory over Hannah Erikson and Alex Moschetto, 8-2. Not to be outdone, No. 3 double of
Janan Fugel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Saddle River Day) and
Alexandra Steck (Loudonville, N.Y./Emma Willard) settled in and brought in win number three over Laura Ferris and Katie Herrington, 8-3.
In singles, No. 1
Noa Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) stepped up to the challenge not permitting Kayla Pete a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0 in a flawless match. Sam Peikes at No. 2, Kim at No. 4 and Fugel in the No. 5 spot matched Noa's score, closing out their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
Barney overcame a minor injury to defeat Hannah Erikson 6-2, 6-4 while Steck returned this semester, earning a 6-3, 6-3 win over her opponent to secure the 9-0 team victory for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers return to action when they host Regis on March 20.
