Hamilton Shines in 15-4 Win Over Simmons

Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) netted six goals on eight shots in her season debut to lead the Smith College women's lacrosse team to a 15-4 win over Simmons College on Thursday night. The victory was also the first for Smith Head Coach Katie Moore, who is in her first year with the Pioneers. 

Hamilton scored the first two goals of the night in the game's opening seven minutes, before first-year Elena Bragg responded for Simmons (1-2) by adding two of its own to knot the score at 2-2 with 19.28 in the first half. Although the Sharks were able to control four of the following seven draw controls, they were unable to contain the visititors. The Pioneers (1-2) ripped off eight straight goals, including four from senior Ray Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) to take a commanding 10-2 lead at the break. 

Smith maintained their dominance in the second half as first-year Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass./Northampton) and Hamilton each found the back of the net twice. Sophomore midfielder Kasey Fries and Bragg closed out the scoring for the Sharks. 

Bragg added two ground balls and a caused turnover in addition to her trio of goals. Fries tallied her fifth goal of the season off a free position shot. Although Simmons was outshot 26-13, first-year goalie Kenzie Rogers recorded a game-high eight saves, along with a caused turnover. 

Hamilton finished with six goals to lead alll scorers and added an assist for Smith, while Silveria netted five goals to go with a ground ball and a caused turnover. Biggs produced three goals, two assists in addition to seven ground balls as sophomore goalkeeper Meredith Britton (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) stopped seven of 11 (.636) shots on net. 

The Pioneers look to even up their record when they travel to Centenary for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday.
