NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team fell to Simmons College, 7-2 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action on the outdoor courts.

The loss dropped Smith to 4-8 overall while Simmons improved to 10-5.

The lone singles victory for the Pioneers came at the No. 6 slot as Alexandra Steck (Loudonville, N.Y./Emma Willard) prevailed 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 over Ashley Pierce. Noa Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) got out to a great start at the No.1 position, taking the first 6-0, but dropped the next two to her opponent, Theresa Reinhard. 

Smith came out victorious at No. 3 doubles when Morgan Barney (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) and Janan Fugel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Saddle River Day) bested their opponents Ashley Chen and Mary Matthews, 8-4.

The Pioneers host Colby-Sawyer College on April 1 at 4:00 p.m.
