April 10, 2016

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Smith College tennis team wrapped up play at the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship Sunday afternoon as the Pioneers finished the weekend in fifth place.

Box Score vs. Bryn Mawr

Box Score vs. Mount Holyoke

Smith dropped the first match of the day to Bryn Mawr, 3-2 and fell to Mount Holyoke 3-2 in the afternoon contest.

After facing the top seeds of Wellesley and Vassar on Saturday, Smith rallied for some individual bests on the second day of play. Although the Pioneers were unable to secure a team win, several individual student-athletes delivered outstanding performances. Noa Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) played lights out tennis against Bryn Mawr at No. 1 singles, and then played toe to toe with her Mount Holyoke opponent, dropping the first set in a tiebreak of high quality tennis.

Joanna Kim (Chicago, IL) had her best performance on court since arriving to Smith. She played with a calm, determined demeaner, defeating her Mount Holyoke opponent, Michelle Cai, in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 3 singles.

Samantha Peikes (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) brought in two wins on the day, defeating Em Prozinski of Bryn Mawr 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot and went the distance with Margaux Holloschutz of MHC, 7-5, 3-6, 11-9.

Peikes was named to the 2016 All-Seven Sisters Team.

Smith returns to action on Saturday, April 16 when it hosts Endicott College at 3:00 p.m.
