NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Two goals by midfielder Alex Bennett powered Williams College to a 3-0 victory over Smith College Tuesday evening in non-conference field hockey action.
The Ephs improve to 3-2, while the Pioneers drop to 3-4 on the season.
Bennett opened the scoring 4:51 into the game on an unassisted tally.
Hannah Goodrick doubled the lead for the visitors in the 46th minute on an assist from Isabel Perry.
Bennett then put the game out of reach as she collected a rebound off of the keeper's pads and sent it into the back of the net.
Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown) and
Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) each registered defensive saves in the loss.
Smith was unable to connect on any of their seven shots on goal as Margaret Draper turned away seven shots in the shutout. Smith netminder
Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) finished with 10 saves.
Smith returns to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition when they host Wheaton Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
