THE SERIES
Smith and Springfield will meet for the 54th time on Thursday evening in a series that dates back to 1974. The Pride hold a 48-5 advantage all-time and have won 14 consecutive games against the Pioneers.

LAST MEETING
Elizabeth Peay (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial) led Smith with seven kills and Macarena Rojas (Maipu, Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) added six, but the Springfield Pride earned a 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-19) victory over Smith on September 24, 2015. 

LAST SMITH WIN
The Pioneers won a 3-1 decision on September 24, 2005.

ABOUT SPRINGFIELD
The Pride bested the two-time defending NEWMAC Champions Babson Beavers Tuesday evening, 3-0, by set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.  Leading the charge for Springfield this year will be senior Lauren Holt, who was chosen to the HERO  Sports Division III Preseason All-America First Team. Holt, the reigning NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, enters her final season looking to build on career numbers which are highlighted by 854 kills on a .355 hitting percentage to go along with 447 blocks. She leads the conference in hitting percentage (.379) and blocks per set (1.58) while classmate Anagabrielle Sanchez ranks fifth in total digs (167). As a team, the Pride are first in the NEWMAC in total blocks (95) and second in hitting percentage (.217). Springfield has made six-consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. 

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith aims to snap a three-game losing streak and earn their first NEWMAC win of the season tonight against Springfield. The Pioneers were unable to overcome a strong offensive attack as the Pioneers fell to Coast Guard, 3-0, by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-13 Tuesday evening. Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) is fifth in the NEWMAC in digs per set (4.55) while Kimani Freeman (Newark, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) and Maca Rojas (Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) rank No. 1 and 2 in the conference in service aces per set. Smith was picked to finish 10th in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
