NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College soccer team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Babson College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Smith, which was unbeaten over its first seven games and off to its best start in school history, falls to 5-1-2 and 1-1-0 in league play. The Beavers move to 4-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the NEWMAC.
Senior Olivia Kerester scored in the 60th minute and stood as the only goal of the game.
Junior
Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) was kept busy all afternoon, finishing with nine saves for the Pioneers. Elizabeth Mycock made two of her three saves in the first half to record her first shutout of the season for the Beavers.
Babson claimed a 15-12 edge in shots, which included a 10-3 advantage on net, while Smith attempted four of the game's five corner kicks.
The Pioneers will play their second game in as many days when they welcome Alfred University to town tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. The Green and White return to action on Tuesday when it hosts WPI at 4:00 p.m.
