Maca Rojas (Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) and
Xela Miller (Grenada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) each finished with 10 digs while
Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) orchestrated the Pioneer offense with 11 assists but Emerson earned a 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-16) victory over Smith on September 29, 2015.
LAST SMITH WIN
Rosa Drummond and Paige Sarlandt each hit .400 as the Pioneers swept Emerson, 3-0 on October 1, 2013.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Emerson was outlasted in a three-set sweep (25-18, 25-14, 26-24) by Springfield in NEWMAC action Saturday afternoon. Junior Sam Harton tallied a team-high 15 digs with sophomore Moria Brennan recording 22 helpers for the Lions. Senior middle Jules Augustine (.352) and senior middle blocker Annie Hall (.336) rank third and fourth in the NEWMAC in hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Moira Brennan orchestrates the offense to the tune of 8.93 assists per set (third in the NEWMAC) while first-year Bella Edwards averages 3.17 digs per set. SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith aims to snap a six-game losing streak and earn their first NEWMAC win of the season tonight against Emerson. The Pioneers dropped 3-0 matches to both MIT and Simmons in a home tri-match Saturday. First-year
Helena Wiatrowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) hammered down 10 kills over two matches and
Kimani Freeman (Newark, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) put down five services aces against Simmons. Sophomore setter
Maca Rojas (Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) averaged 18 assists in the two matches. Senior libero
Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) averages 4.55 digs per set while Freeman and Rojas rank No. 1 and 3 in the conference in service aces per set. Smith was picked to finish 10th in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
