The Smith College soccer team shouldered a 1-0 loss to Springfield College Tuesday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. With the win, the Pride improve to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in conference while the Pioneers dip to 5-9 on the season and 1-7 in the NEWMAC.

Springfield went on the attack early and often, recording three shots in the opening five minutes of action. The Pride got on the board at the 6:50 mark when Kim Quiles buried her ninth goal of the season on a pass from Mikaela Coady.

Smith's best opportunity of the first half came in the closing seconds when Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) beat her defender and went 1v1 with the keeper. Boucher saved the shot but the rebound went straight to the foot of Seri Park (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) whose shot was blocked by a Springfield defender.

After a foul 30 yards out from the Springfield defense, Smith had one last chance to tie the game, but Reilly Sullivan (Keene, N.H./Keene)'s boot went straight to the Springfield keeper.

Senior goalkeeper Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) was impressive for the Pioneers, registering seven saves in the contest. Her counterpart, Ciara Boucher, stopped four in the shut-out victory.
