Three different players scored goals in the second half as No. 10 Amherst College posted a 3-0 win over Smith College in non-conference field hockey action Thursday evening. The Mammoths snap a two game losing streak and improve to 9-4 on the season, while the Pioneers drop to 7-8.Â
Anna Agathis, classmate Francesca Daniels, and Caroline Feeley each recorded a goal, while Mary Grace Cronin, Elizabeth Turnbull, and Kendal Codey logged assists.
Smith goalkeeper
Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) was outstanding in net, posting 15 saves. Katie Savage did not have to make a save in the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: SMI 0, AMH 1; 43:06 - Mary Grace Cronin gathered a save from the Smith goalkeeper and dished it off to Anna Agathis who placed it in the lower right corner of the net.Â
GOAL: SMI 0, AMH 2; 64:02 - Elizabeth Turnbull's shot from the top of the circle was tipped into the cage by Francesca Daniels.
GOAL: SMI 0, AMH 3; 69:42 - Kendall Codey's ripped a shot from the top right side of the circle to Caroline Feeley who was waiting on the left post and slammed it home.
GAME NOTES
- Amherst owned a 24-1 advantage in shots, while also holding a 15-0 edge in corners.
- This was the fifth ranked opponent Smith has faced this season.
- The Mammoths now lead the all-time series 29-10-3.Â
- Amherst has outscored the Pioneers 25-4 over the last five meetings.
