Pioneers Go 1-1 on Final Day of Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational

Sophomore Helena Wiatrowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) was named to the All-Tournament Team of the 26th Annual Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament as the Pioneers went 1-1 on the final day of competition. Smith dropped their first match to Worcester State 3-1, before earning a 3-0 win over Curry College in the finale. The Pioneers improve to 10-16 overall and earn double digit wins for the first time since the 2013 season.

SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Wiatrowski led the defensive effort with a career-high 19 digs.
  • First year outside hitter Caleigh Johnson (Georgetown, Tex./St. Dominic Savio Catholic) totaled 12 kills and hit .462.
  • Sophomore setter Kimani Freeman (Newark, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) finished with 27 assists. 
  • First year Amy Hagen (Owings, Md./Northern) finished with eight kills and three aces.

  • Senior outside hitter Elizabeth Peay (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial) hammered down a game-high 12 kills.
  • Johnson and senior outside hitter Xela Miller (Grenada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) each finished with 10 kills.
  • Freeman orchestrated the offense with 33 assists while also adding 10 digs.
