Records: Smith (5-5-0, 1-3-0); Emerson 3-4-2, 3-0-0)

The Smith College soccer team shouldered a 1-0 loss to Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Tuesday evening at Rotch Field. The Pioneers fall to 5-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play, while the Lions improve to 2-4-2 and remain undefeated in the NEWMAC at 3-0-0.

After a Smith corner kick in the eighth minute, the Lions gained possession and began to pressure the Pioneer defense. At the 16:45 mark, a long ball from Elizabeth Noble was controlled by Jess Frost who netted the game-winner early in the opening period.

An Emerson foul gave Kenza Mdarhri-Alaoui a free kick opportunity to tie the game in the 70th minute, but the Lion's goalkeeper was able to make the save.

Smith goalkeeper Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) made five saves in the loss as Emerson net minder Laura Gartelman stopped two shots for the Lions.
