HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers wasted little time getting into their groove as Barriscale and Guest-Pritchett each had four points to give Smith an 8-5 lead at the 6:34 mark. A 10-4 run by Smith was used to close out the quarter as the home team ended the first ahead 23-14.

A trey by Bondi at 3:48 gave the Pioneers their largest margin of the half (38-22) but Bates would go on a 10-0 run over the next 1:02. Binkhorst and Julia Middlebrook connected on jumpers followed by six points from Davenport. Smith caught fire behind-the-arc as Bondi nailed two and Sydney Koh (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) drained a trey as the Pioneers held off the Bobcats for the rest of the period for a 47-32 lead at the break.

Smith got ahead by as many as 29 (69-40) on Meghan Holland (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prepatory)'s layup with 1:50 left in the third quarter. The Bobcats scored the final seven points of the quarter to go into the final period trailing 69-47. The Pioneers would maintain a comfortable double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
