A come-from-behind effort from the Williams College basketball team powered the Ephs to a 71-60 victory over Smith College Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Pioneers drop to 4-1, while Williams remains undefeated at 4-0.
SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) led the Pioneers in scoring for the third consecutive game as the junior guard finished with 20 points and three assists.
- Junior forward Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga./The Lawrenceville School)Â recorded a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.Â
- Junior guard Meghan Holland (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prepatory) dished out a team-high five assists.Â
- Junior forward Nikkiah Snoddy (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional)Â scored a career-high nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.Â
WILLIAMS HIGHLIGHTS
- Amanni Fernandez scored a season-high 25 points on 5 of 6 three-point shooting to go with five rebounds and four assists.
- Kristin Fechtelkotter totaled 17 points and hauled in eight boards.
- Lauren Vostal posted 13 points and eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Smith controlled the first quarter, leading by as many as nine points (16-7). The Pioneers were up 16-9 on the Ephs at the end of the first. However, Williams came back right away to start the second quarter, tying the game at 20-20 with 7:12 remaining. The two teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter, and a Vostal three-pointer at the buzzer put the Ephs up 33-30 at the break.
The Ephs built their lead in the third quarter, going up by as many as 10 at various points. Going into the fourth quarter, Williams led Smith 49-40. In the final period, Smith got the Williams lead down to six points at 7:59, but the Ephs never let it get closer than this, behind eight more points from Fernandez.
