Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) powered the Smith College lacrosse team to a 20-9 win over Purchase College Friday evening in non-conference action. At 8-1, the Pioneers are off to the best start in program history, are just two wins shy from the most wins in a season by any Smith lacrosse team, and have won eight consecutive games.
SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- In addition to her seven goals, Harris added one assist and two ground balls. Harris now has 21 helpers on the season and is just five away from the school record for assists in a season.
- First year Raleigh Williams (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley ) added three goals and four ground balls.
- Caroline Myran (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends School), Bella Ferraro (Orange, Conn./Amity), Sydney Garner (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School), and Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass./Northampton) each netted two.
- Junior goalkeeper Sarah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) made five saves and is now second all-time with eight wins this season.
PURCHASE HIGHLIGHTS
- Kelly Turtell finished with three goals, three assists, six ground balls, and six caused turnovers for the Panthers.
- Zoe Hines totaled three goals and added four draw controls for Purchase.
- Goalkeeper Cynthia Plackis stopped 12 shots in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Purchase struck first on a score from Madi Smith, but the Pioneers responded with goals from Myran, Biggs, and Williams in a five minute span. Leading 3-1, Smith would outscore the Panthers 7-2 to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.
Purchase opened the second period with two goals in 30 seconds, however, Smith scored three straight to pull away and go on for the 20-9 final.
