SCOUTING THE LYONS
Wheaton welcomes Smith to Nordin Field for the NEWMAC home opener Wednesday evening after a 14-4 loss to Trinity College Sunday aftenroon. In that game, senior Angela Mallis and first year Molly Covarrubias scored two goals each while goalkeepers Galicia Rothe and Molly Witten
split time in goal, coming up with four and three saves respectively. Wheaton lost their their top-two goal scorers from 2016 in Brooke Sabol (32-11-43) and Jenna Tewksbury (32-8-40) but return Katie Peters and Angea Mallis who combined to score 46 goals a year ago. The Lyons are 4-1 in NEWMAC openers dating back to the 2012 season. Senior Giovanna Bihop ranks second in the conference in total assists (16). Wheaton was picked to finish 4th in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
The Smith College lacrosse program is off to their best start in program history at 8-1 and aim to win their conference opener for the first time since the 2012 season. The Pioneers are coming off a 20-9 victory over Purchase College on Friday evening. In that game,
Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) scored seven goals and added one assist followed by
Raleigh Williams (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley ) who added three goals and four ground balls. Harris leads the NEWMAC in goals (34), assists (20) and points (54) while junior goalkeeper Sarah price ranks first in the conference in saves (73) and save percentage (.541). The Pioneers were picked to finish 8th in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
