The Smith College softball team dropped game one to the Lyons, 3-0 but earned a split with a 2-1 victory in game two as the Pioneers' season comes to an end Sunday afternoon.

GAME ONE: WHEATON 3 - SMITH 0
Wheaton plated one run in the second inning, before scoring its final two runs in the sixth to earn a 3-0 win over Smith.

Cimino came around to score the Lyons opening run on a two-out RBI single up the middle by senior Mary DeMoura. Cimino reached earlier in the inning with a single up the middle of her own.

Senior Rebecca Seifert drove in the final two runs with a hard hit ball up the middle that sent Cimino and Jessica Cochrane home.

Cimino gave up just four hits on the day, while striking out one and walking two. Natalie Burchat (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) of Smith also pitched a complete game, surrendering six hits, while striking out three and walking five.

GAME TWO: WHEATON 1 - SMITH 2
Tyler Freeney handed the Pioneers a lead they would not relinquish in the first inning with an RBI single up the middle that brought home Brittney Blokker (Seattle, Wash./Ballard). Smith added an insurance run in the fourth with Ally Snyder (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) beating a Lyon throw home, making it a 2-0 contest.

Wheaton earned one run back in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of a sacrifice fly to right by Caroline Fairbanks. The long fly ball allowed Seifert to tag up from third.

Rowan Turner (Kansas City, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) collected the complete game win for Smith, pitching seven innings, giving up one run on seven hits, while striking out four.

Cimino, Allison Cox and Shelbi Wilson all saw time in the circle with Cimino being credited with the loss.
