Rowan Turner (Kansas City, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) tossed a five inning no-hitter in the Pioneers game two 10-0 win over Clark University Wednesday afternoon. Smith won the opener 8-3 to sweep the Cougars for the third consecutive season.
SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- Turner recorded two RBI at the dish in game one before moving to the circle where she yielded three walks and struck out three for her third win of the season.
- Sophomore Alyssa Pioggia (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) launched her first home run of the season, driving in four runs over two games.
- Tyler Feeney (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket Regional)'s offensive starpower was on display as the sophomore belted her first career dinger and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI.
- Senior Ally Snyder (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and first year Elodie Townsend (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) each finished with four hits.
CLARK HIGHLIGHTS
- Jocie Orangio was the lone Cougar with multiple hits (2-for-4).
- Christina Kopacz, Leah Bodin, and Kendra Walker each registered a RBI for Clark.
GAME 1: SMITH 8 CLARK 3
In the opener, the Pioneers got on the board early as Kraus' bunt single scored
Brittney Blokker (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) and Townsend. Clark responded with a run in the second and Kopacz blasted the first homer of her career to tie the game at 2-2.
With Snyder on first, Pioggia smacked her first homerun of the season for the 4-2 lead and the Pioneers would add on four more runs over the next three innings for the 8-2 advantage. Clark's other run came in the bottom of the seventh when Lauen Mackey scored on a Leah Bodin single.
Senior pitcher
Natalie Burchat (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work. Sophomore
Jessica Flohr (Foster City, Calif./Crystal Springs Uplands School) made an appearance in the final two innings allowing three hits and one run with one strikeout.
GAME 2: SMITH 10 CLARK 0 (5 INNINGS)
After Feeney's second inning homer, Pioggia's RBI double in the third set the Pioneers ahead 3-0. A monster seven run seventh inning proved to be too much for the Cougars as Smith went on for the the 10-0 final. First year
Makena Wagner (Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Hawaii) made the most of her pinch hitting opportunity, smacking a two RBI single scoring Pioggia and Snyder. Blokker completed the scoring on a triple to center field which brought around Townsend.
