The Smith College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to Connecticut College Wednesday evening at Silfen Field.

Two goals in the first half proved to be all the Camels needed to earn their first win of the season.

Smith goalkeeper Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made three saves in the loss while Andi McGraw stopped one to secure the shutout for the Camels.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: CC 1, SMITH 0 – 28:05: Caroline Ferro beat the Smith defense on a breakaway and beat the Smith goalkeeper.  
GOAL: CC 2, SMITH 0 - 29:32: Jamie Navoni gathered the rebound off her initial shot and sent it to the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

GAME NOTES

• Connecticut College held an advantage in shots 9-4 while the Pioneers held the edge in corners, 6-5.
• Junior defender Aiko Dzikoski made her first start of the year.
• The Camels now lead the all-time series 4-2.

The Pioneers begin NEWMAC action Saturday when the Lyons of Wheaton College come to Northampton for a 1:00 p.m. start.
